About Township of Irvington, NJ, Mayor Tony Vauss

Township of Irvington, NJ, Mayor Tony Vauss is lifelong Irvington resident and Mayor Vauss has been a Township employee for more than 25 years. Before becoming the Mayor of Irvington, Tony Vauss worked as the Assistant Director of the Township’s Housing Department. He has also served as the President of the Irvington Board of Education and a Commissioner for the Irvington Housing Authority.

Prior to becoming mayor of the Township of Irvington, NJ, Mayor Vauss also founded the Tony Vauss Civic Association so that he could help more youth and seniors within his community. Tony Vauss would even go as far as taking seniors to dinner from time to time or sponsoring Casino Night for them with his own funds.

Mayor Vauss truly believes that all of his previous actions and the roles he has served in have all helped him better understand how to be the Mayor of Irvington and meet the demands and needs of the people in his community.

So far, as the Mayor of Irvington, Tony Vauss has helped keep the Township safe and clean. Under his leadership, the Township of Irvington, NJ, has seen its violent crime rate reduced to its lowest rate since 1970 and its economy improved. With his motto, “One Team, One Dream,” Mayor Vauss encourages the citizens of Irvington to come together and take full responsibility and accountability for their community’s condition.

So far during his tenure as the Mayor of Irvington, Tony Vauss has hired more police officers and firefighters, including the first non-veteran Latina. Mayor Vauss has also implemented the Community Service Officers Program and a requirement that stores and other multiple-unit dwellings in the Township install cameras. Under his direction, the Township has also been able to demolish more than 60 abandoned homes and begin to improve its neighborhoods by paving and improving more than 54 streets.

The best part is that Mayor Vauss was able to accomplish all of this without raising the tax rate. He continues to work hard for the Township of Irvington, NJ, to this day. Tony Vauss attends every council meeting and public hearing he can and is truly dedicated to remaining abreast of the issues at hand within his community.

Tony Vauss has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Pillar College located in Newark New Jersey, and he is currently seeking his master’s degree.
